An interior lot may have driveway access from either the front street or the alley, but not both. A corner lot may have driveway access from either the front street or a side street, but not both.
In order to access a detached garage and have a front-driveway, one would need to pave almost the entire length of the lot. This limits the amount of backyard green space. This restriction promotes street parking. At the November 15, 2018, CPC hearing regarding Accessory Dwelling Units, City Staff admitted that all the homes in the B.A.C.D are within 1,200’ of a bus stop and none (0) of the homes with and ADU are required to provide off-street parking for it's occupant.
On interior lots, allow driveway access from both the front street and the alley. On a corner lot, allow driveway access from the front and side street.
Provide convenience to the homeowners while providing additional off-street parking. This solution increases neighborhood safety, alleviates congestion on sanitation days and improves the aesthetics of our neighborhood.
